Neko Case – Hell-On

I like the album, but the CD mastering is kind of muffled and limp. Hard to understand how, after 4 decades of the format, there are still so many bad CD masterings out there.

Wish I had read the reviews of this pressing before I picked up a copy today. Despite it being new, all of the surface noise issues were present that the other reviewers indicated. I didn't even get past side 1, which had a giant scratch across track 4 right out of the sleeve. My local shop took it right back after listening for about 30 seconds, it was that obvious. Do not buy!

I am a great fan of all her solo albums since The Virginian (1997), but this one is a lukewarm effort that doesn't add anything of value to her body of work, also feat. the worst cover artwork I've seen in years. A major disappointment.

bought my copy used. extra media and gatefold are amazing, and the color of the record is quite nice. i generally didn't find the surface noise intrusive even with headphones on, but it is, however, still obviously present in between tracks. side A did have a couple weird pops, namely in the tracks hell-on (1) and bad luck (4), but i didn't notice any such issues throughout the rest of the record.
it is certainly a shame given the songs sound amazing otherwise, and i would probably recommend a different pressing over this one, but my experience was still overall very pleasant.

My black vinyl pressing of this lp is perfect. Highly recommended.

I have bought this limited peach pressing twice now - full retail - and it is terrible. Both copies have substantial surface noise and clearly defects in A1 and A2 - I've had bad luck with two copies of this and Neko should complain. Will look for a black vinyl version. Avoid this one.

Side 2 of this LP is pressed off center, causes the off-pitched “dragging sound”. Buyer beware .
