Reviews
- Edited 7 years agoWonderful sound design. I love this record. One of my favs from Martyn's catalog. Bass heavy, tight drums, trippy synths. Unique tunes!
- Excellent production, a very good feel of dynamics. You can hear the influence of Detroit techno and climates Chain Reaction.
- Edited 14 years agoNatural Selection marks the apex of Martyn's string of dubstep eps, both tracks appearing as highlights on his debut album Great Lengths. On Natural Selection, he pairs retro synths with a trippy deep vocal to great effect. He also utilizes one of the vocal samples from a former track All I have Is Memories to add to the background atmospherics.
But the true highlight of the ep is Vancouver. The ultra-deep rolling bassline matches the percussion perfectly. The instantly-recognizable lead synth evokes a distinct underground vibe unique in dubstep (most similar to those of 2562)--a more techno-based sound than his London dubstep counterparts. And as with Natural Selection, Martyn includes an appropriately dark vocal. 5/5
