Some sources list Paul Anka as one of the singers on "Tears Are Not Enough". That is wrong. Anka did want to participate, but he backed out due to scheduling issues. What would have been his solo went to Dan Hill instead. Here are some other major Canadian performers who somehow, to put it short, got excluded: Leonard Cohen, Randy Bachman, Gino Vannelli, Stompin' Tom Connors, Rik Emmett, Ivan Doroschuk, Robbie Robertson, Ra McGuire, Hank Snow, Sylvia Tyson, Doug Bennett, Lee Aaron and Zal Yanovsky. How they ended up not performing, your guess is as good as mine.

        UPDATE!
-Because Leonard Cohen performed the day before the recording session in Copenhagen, he would have been unable to appear on the recording.
-Rik Emmett was on tour with Triumph in the US at the time the song was recorded. Emmett says he was invited and would have loved to be part of the recording but scheduling wouldn't allow and recording verses remotely wasn't an option.
-On the Toronto Mike'd podcast, Randy Bachman revealed he was never asked to appear on the recording.
-The recording of "Tears Are Not Enough" overlapped with Stompin' Tom Connors' self-imposed retirement, a move meant to protest the lack of support given to Canadian stories by the policies of the Federal government. Therefore, Connors was unable to attend the sessions.

When I was a kid, the radio stations in Winnipeg would play a version that had overdubs of some of the artists speaking throughout the song, in particular between the first chorus and the second verse where there was an additional 4 bar instrumental section filled with various spoken introductions, stuff like "This is Corey Hart, let's feed the world!".

Would love to find that version someday, can't find any reference of it anywhere online.
