This was my second Binker and Moses album... and this time they are accompanied by 4 other musicians. My opinion... this album is nuts! Double drumming pummels its way through a barrage of blissful insanity that sometimes sounds like there are 3-4 different songs playing at the same time... I love it! As for the record... excellent quality from Gearbox. referencing Alive In The East? (LP, Album) GB1547
It's classified as "FREE JAZZ" but to me it sounds way more structured then that, you can clearly tell the 2 musicians have been around each other for some time and are in tune to how the other plays, not at one moment listening to this project did it sound over-saturated nor did it sound as if one musician was trying to out shine the other, nor did it simply sound like a jam session, just 2 highly talented musicians complimenting each other 4/5 IMOreferencing Alive In The East? Besides the music - which is really free and joyful from start to finish - I also find the sound quality superb! The recording and pressing succeeded to incorporate the sound of the two drummers and the small details like minor harp chords also earn their focus. I often read the term 'sounds like the musicians would play in your room', I think this is something like that.referencing Alive In The East? (LP, Album) GB1547

So is fire made. All absolutely focused. Pure joy and energy. referencing Alive In The East? (LP, Album) GB1547
This is not really the "new" UK jazz school everybody's talking: material here is more spiritual/free jazz but it's seriously banging when you play it loud.
My first impression was: do we really need two drummers, plus when it's Moses Boyd and Yussef Dayes? But everybody's at his right place.. Real, authentic music, also coming with a wonderful artwork.- Mine arrived with a very slight warp. Don't know if it was a pressing issue or it was caused by the heat in India. Fantastic music though.
