Two reviews here on Discogs. First: album is too heavy, claustrofobic, agressive. The other: funniest Laibach record.
Well, in case of this band this does not look strange. Although I find "Let It Be" much funnier, and calling it extremely heavy and noisy music is an overstatement, one can find here both heaviness (that's the sound Rammstein copied from the Slovenians and made big $$$ on it) and satire hidden behind quite serious theme. That's a standard for this band.
First half of the 90s was a time of introduction of industrial/metal crossover and no other Laibach's album uses the heavy guitar sound that much.

Probably the best and funniest Laibach's album ! Sound of my copy contains many pops, although the vinyl is visually VG+ close to NM. How are yours ?

Jesus Christ Superstars is an extremely heavy and noisy albums that stays on constant assault, never stopping or giving a breather, a bit like Nova Akropola. But unlike Nova Akropola, JCS does this in all the wrong ways. The album was, at least for me, very hard to listen through due to intense heavines of Laibachian drumming and epic guitar walls that crushed everything under them. Milan continues with his snarling and growling chanty vocals he used also in Nato, but now in a more slowed down and restricted way. He sounds like he is struggling with breath on every word, crushed under the intense weight of the music. This adds into the claustrophobic effect this album is filled with.
Of course considering the theme of the album, religion, this absolute claustrophobic heavines is absolutely fitting, but makes for an unpleasant and draining listening experience, unless you are really prepared. Swans has been using this same formula, mixing extremely heavy and noisy music with religious themes to much greater effect. I think i have only listened this album all the way through once when i bought it, usually i give up in the middle or just focus on few favourite songs on the album. Then again, if you are a fan of this sort of epic guitar heavines and noisy agressive sounds, definitely get this album! Very few bands have succeeded in sounding this extreme....
