Reviews
Harvey Andrews is a name I'd never even heard of until about a week ago. And after listening to a couple of his albums, I'm surprised I hadn't found out about him earlier. Andrews has a clear and expressive voice, at times almost reaching Tim Buckley territory. And the production here is top notch, considering how obscure this is (though it's not surprising if you look at that credits list. Dude had some pretty big connections).
"Boothferry Bridge" is an ethereal beauty to rival the best of Bread. The more urgent "Martha" is another clear highlight. Nothing else on the album reaches those peaks, but it's all pretty good. "When I'm Old One Day" is reminiscent of Donovan. While "Hey! Sandy" recalls Don McLean. And "Unaccompanied" is an a cappella tune in traditional British Folk style. But for the most part Andrews' sound can best be described as the perfect mix of David Gates and Dan Fogelberg. So if you're a fan of those two artists, I can almost guarantee you will love this album. But if you're not already into soft 70's singer-songwriter pop, you won't be converted here.
