Wayne Shorter – Odyssey Of Iska

Out of the sleeve the album was flat, quiet and dynamic. I am a Shorter completist and that’s why I grabbed this Tone Poet. Side 1 is a moody, Avant Garde, Spiritual, Free and full of improvisation. From the needle drop, it was an overwhelming listening experience for me.

I prefer the Brazilian rhythms on Side 2 Another reviewer recommended to start there when listening to this album. Definite following that advice next spin.

Hooked since the three first notes... This immersive album is addictive. One of the most spacial work of Wayne Shorter.
This Tone Poet version is, as usual, faultless and, once again, Kevin Gray bring us a great work. This man is a genius.
I just regret to not have an illustrated gatefold cover as all the other in the tone poet series.

Great sound, great pressing, as expected. The music is kind of "esoteric", but in a good way. Post, post, post Bop....but when I compare records like this to Alice Coltrane, you can hear the difference between a creative person that can NOT play an instrument, to a creative person that can play. Wayne Shorter is such a great example what an artist has to do when he wants to move foreward. Yes, you can play it save, you can dumb down, or you can repeat yourself, but you can take the challenge and move on. Well done Wayne, you are a real artist and not only a good musician.

I admit that I'm not much of a fan of post bop and the more avant garde style that emerged during the 1960s. This album is helping change my mind, though. I like what another reviewer said about feeling "hooked." I felt that today after listening to this record again! I started with side 2 and, somehow, it made all the difference. Amazing album, great pressing.

Yet again, the Tone Poet series fails to disappoint. Outstanding musicians (Wayne Shorter just one of my all time favourites). wonderful music and faultless pressings. Totally absorbing and utterly addictive. Once you're hooked, try not to keep buying!!

No gatefold , which is fantastic when you're running out of room . The cover still looks fantastic , and is beautifully laminated .

Hot damn this record and pressing rule! Too bad the prices are back up to $60 a pop in Canada! Still worth it!

I spun this three times before leaving a review. I have tried very hard not to buy Tone Poets on release day this year, but this is definitely one to pick up if you enjoy this album. Best surprise... it's not a gatefold! Five Stars.

Wayne Shorter? Blue Note Tone Poet?? Get stuck in! The line up indicates a badaas brew, and it really is. A stunning audio experience, the vinyl pressing is simply spectacular, the music is moody and atmospheric, cut so well too. It's not an easy ride at times but neither is life. Jazz fans relish this otherworldly revisiting, played and reissued with sincere passion, beautiful version!

As with most tone poet reissues, this is outstanding and the glossy cardboard cover is great
