Esquivel also known as the father of lounge/easy listening music shows here why is that so.
First thing that marvels about this album is the intrepid production for the time, incredibly effectist and original. Esquivel plays with so many technological novelties for the time here, from all his albums this is probably the most notably "cosmic" and psychedelic in sound if we may say so. Plenty of color and twisted arrangements full of effects made by Mics, recording techniques, reverb, panning, tonality, amplification and so on. Listening this 1962 production in 2022 can't help but amaze with the music composition and the production ideas implicated, sound so avantgardistic even for today standards. Esquivel truly show his expertise as composer and groundbreaking ideas.
Here's the combination of big band with a sympathy for jazz using latin rhythms, orchestral swing, and rhythmic plays and outlandish instrumental effects. Lots of rhythm and tonality, big timbres and volume amplification in certain instruments or twisted interchanges of sounds between notes. Like playing the piece of the guitar with the xylophone and such, quite surrealistic!
Think of a soundtrack for a lucid dream dimension, a bright future imagined were imagination and energy fills everything. Every song its so unique, full of character and beauty in its own. Pure magic and exoticism.
Esquivel was truly connected with his time, he reflects his age, the changes, the revolutions, the psychedelia, the youthful desire, the materialistic positivity, the love for life all condensed in just songs with a particular touch, flavor and color.
Truly a modern composer. Music is not like this anymore.
