The "Quadio" series is bringing home the 4-channel goods rather consistently. This is another winner for sound quality and performances, quality you don't get in today's productions. A soulful album that was not over-played by radio. And the quad spread opens up the music wonderfully. Just requires a Blu-Ray player and surround set-up for the speakers.
In spite of what others are saying, I found the sound on this to be open and expressive. It’s not the best mastering I’ve heard but, in terms of price point and availability, this is worthy of time. And the music speaks for itself and is essential.
What a hidden gem of both a recording and pressing!!- Can anyone comment on the sound quality? I keep hearing that Japanese pressings are top notch.
Words can't even describe my love for this eclectic masterpiece. The breadth of Donny Hathaway's musical talents was limitless in every way and this album certainly confirmed he was ahead of the pack. Furthermore, it's a poignant mediation on what he would've fully realized in the future had tragedy not taken its toll. Extension of a Man is the work of a rare genius, exploring intensely beyond convention, while peaking at his own expense. To touch on epic orchestral suites, rootsy ragtime, and jazz-rock grooves, then glide into easy-listening pop, deep blues, and streetwise funk with so much finesse isn't an easy task. In fact, it sounds overreaching. But Hathaway's soulful rapture, along with the magnificent musicianship, is the secret ingredient to why the disparate music of this opus holds well together. Every time I hear it, I can't help but realize he had the ambition and range to pull off a great double album, one that could possibly sit in perfect company with Stevie's Songs in the Key of Life. But, this more than measures up fine.- Mastered by Capitol. IS in runout. Ian Sefchick. Tends to be sourced digitally and usually bright to my ears. This seems one of his better remasters.
Can anyone comment on the sound quality of this one?- Edited one year agodifferent mix especially on "I Love The Lord ; He Heard Me Cry (Parts I & II)" incl. some strings parts. The best version so far.
