Block 16, with their debut album Morning Sun, immediately sends you to an island of beautiful chilled house from the first track, “Find An Oasis.” There’s plenty to enjoy on this album, especially Jhelisa’s vocals -- a welcome return. But the other vocalists are strong as well: “My Sunshine” is dubbed-out bliss with Bim Sherman while “Can’t Stop” benefits from having Robert Owens at the helm. The instrumentals are of similar quality: “Slow Hot Wind” is a sinewy groover, “And Voodoo” takes us straight to the Latin Caribbean, and “Electrokution” is straight 80s funk. The album as a whole goes to show why Nuphonic, during its time, was one of the best labels around.
