Sinatra's 12th album with Capitol, a successor to Sinatra's previous ballad albums on Capitol In The Wee Small Hours (1955) and Where Are You? (1957).

Recorded simultaneously in mono and stereo. First released in September 1958 in mono with six tracks per side. First released in stereo in November 1958 with only five tracks per side, omitting A4 "It's A Lonesome Old Town" and B4 "Spring Is Here" from the mono version. Later stereo reissues include all 12 tracks. Entered the U.S. charts on September 29, 1958, and reached No. 1 on October 13, where it stayed for five weeks. Certified Gold on June 21, 1962.

The cover portrait was painted by artist Nick Volpe and won the Grammy Award for Best Album Cover in 1958.
