Reviews
- "You are now tuned in to A Tribe Called De La Peas" - I couldn't have said it better myself. Never knew the Peas without Fergie could.sound so good. This must be what it means to get your soul back in the industry. The final Interscope album , and truly this is a grande finale. The instrumentals are danceable, the lyrics are deceptively corny and simplistic but actually are at it's core ironic, humorous , and boisterous as they add just another layer to a narrative that is thought-provoking and empowering without seeming repetitive, even though the social commentary on this album is a familiar road countlessly tread on.
The Peas make their unmistakable mark here. Showing a side of L.A. emceeing that seemingly is only reserved for late nights at Leimert Park and the streets of H.P.
Where was the promotion for this record? I did not hear not one of these songs on a commercial or all over the radio. And this Black Eyed Peas here , the potential for single success is just a default in their career. I can see why they left Interscope after this record, contractual obligations aside, if they refuse to push the Peas' real shit as much as those "The END" tracks that were in constant rotation when I was in high school.
Or "My Humps" , when I was in elementary. How long are people going to want to "Get Retarded" ? Shit, I'm glad the Peas didn't.
I probably won't sit through their whole discography, but this being the first full project that I have heard from them, the bar is set high.
What the fuck did I just listen to? As a boom bap head , I remember as a teenager I couldn't stay awake through a full De La or Tribe project , this right here had my attention at just about every monent. Jazzy but bombastic with all the flair in the world one could ask for. It feels good to walk away from a listen and feel up in spirits, when so much music that I usually check out is lamentable. "Masters Of The Sun Vol.1" is a friendly reminder that a walk on the light side doesn't always have to be that bad. - Mine is so static and noisey
Also the 2nd disc had the d side label in the c side and viceversa I wonder if it was just mine , did this happened to someone else?
