A really crisp and clean recording and pressing. And of course Warrens iconic songwriting.

The Envoy signaled a career low point for Warren after rising to stardom with his self-titled record and especially Excitable Boy. In my opinion, this is one of Warren's finest records though. It has good rockers. Good ballads. Plenty of signature WZ personality in the lyrics. I also like when Warren gets a little political. Not in the bumper sticker/soap box preachy tribal partisan way so many others do and continue to do today. He gets deep in the weeds and later on in the 80's he would dabble in that a bit more dealing with conspiracy theories.

Albums hit and flop for a million reasons. I don't know why this album flopped. It could just be that "Let Nothing Come Between You" wasn't a strong enough single in 1982. Who knows. Warren could have partly been a victim to the then-new flashy MTV music video era that a lot of 70's bands and singer/songwriters had trouble adjusting to and its not like the chicks were going to swoon at Warren's love ballads or appeal to angsty teenaged boys the way glam rockers did.
