Notes

Sandinista! is the fourth studio album by the English band the Clash. It was released on 12 December 1980 as a triple album containing 36 tracks, with 6 songs on each side. Anticipating the "world music" trend of the 1980s, it features funk, reggae, jazz, gospel, rockabilly, folk, dub, rhythm and blues, calypso, disco, and rap. For the first time, the band's traditional songwriting credits of Strummer and Jones were replaced by a generic credit to the Clash, and the band agreed to a decrease in album royalties in order to release the 3-LP at a low price.

The title refers to the Sandinistas in Nicaragua, and its catalogue number, 'FSLN1', refers to the abbreviation of the party's Spanish name, Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional.

Sandinista! was voted best album of the year in the Pazz & Jop critics poll in The Village Voice, and was ranked number 404 on the Rolling Stone list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" in 2003. Slant Magazine listed the album at number 85 on its "Best Albums of the 1980s" list in 2012.

These '8P' Japanese first-press CDs (and their 1991 ESCA represses) are the definitive digital versions of the Clash albums. Originally released years before the first European CDs from the early 90s, they have way more low end and overall presence, and almost sound like the old LPs.

My copy conforms to all of the above, but the matrix for Side F reads FSLN I F7 (etched) - I can't see this on any of the different pressings, above.

THIS IS THE PRESSING TO GET... IF YOU SEE THE REPRESS WITH THE "AUDIOPHILE QUALITY PRESSING" STICKER.... AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS. I HAVE BOUGHT AND RETURNED 2 COPIES... SPEND THE MONEY ON A DECENT USED COPY!!!!
I GOT LUCKY AND FOUND A GREAT COPY WITH ANGEL SLEEVES.

An ambitious epic sprawling sextuple album that would have made a great single album. Stylistically, they cover a lot of territory - new wave, funk, ska, rockabilly, folk, gospel, disco, blues, dub, art-pop that fall into three categories: experimental disposable and great. It may be somewhat bloated, but much of it sounds fresh and inspired. Maybe they’re demonstrating that true punk aesthetic, of not giving a fuck? Not a classic but well worth owning for the nuggets.

Just got my second copy of this.. first one I returned. This one I should return, but hate being that guy so I may not.
Warped. bad sound. horrible pressing.
How do they get away with saying this is an audiophile album?
I have no clue how the remaster is as the vinyl quality and pressing is so poor.

CBS in Australia were originally planning to release this album as a double (hence 2ELSP 0031). Double record promos were released. Early copies of 3LP had a sticker indicating the 3rd album was a bonus, hence the labelling of side 1 & 2 instead of side 5 & 6. The 3rd record also had a unique number.

My version has a red sticker on the front: "3 LP's Special Price CBS 66363".
Surprised at the love for this album. I find it a hard listen overall although it would have made an excellent single album. Can't beat the debut - GOAT!

A sprawling masterpiece , that the critics refuse to acknowledge ( because they can't box it in to a certain musical style ) . Up there with the White album , another sprawling masterpiece !

ANOTHER HORRIBLE PRESSING BY UNIVERSAL. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRESSING... THIS "AUDIOFILE PRESSING"
