Koop had their fame for a while with their second and third album, through a lighter and loungy approach to jazz, inspired by the jazz orchestras and easy listening from the 50’s and 60’s. Although those two albuns were celebrated in their time, for me, koop’s first album is where the gold is, with its darker atmosphere successfully combined with jazz elements and beat designs. In “Sons of Koop” we have depth, adventure and wonder and for me, thats what makes an album special and deserving of a vinyl reissue.

This album definitely needs a vinyl release. It’s a beautiful album and would really be so sweet to see this released for the first time ever.

An unexpected Gem. I was expecting more sunny happy upbeat jazzy sounds. But this one is dark, moody and edgy. I love it! Whilst i appreciate the genius of their later work, this is one not to be missed if you like artists such as fever ray, bjork, royksopp and massive attack. More of a Winter album i would say, very well conceived mysterious vocals, melodies, beats and productions in the dark ambient trip hoppy area. I found it in Inverness CEX the same day I discovered it online. Sheer fluke 10/10

Koop's first album SONS OF KOOP skirts between ambient and trip-hop, with a definite Scandanavian chill. While the occasional flashes of brilliance appear (like "Glomd"), this is very much Koop discovering their direction, experimenting with industrial ("Psalm" and "Bijarne Riis") to frigid trip-hop ("Absolute Space"). "Words of Traniquility" sounds like it's beaming straight from a lonely cantina on the moon, with ethereal vocals and the occasional chords from a accordion. All the songs are extremely quiet and subtle, sometimes too subtle, I think, because despite their quality, they slip by (like the vocal track, "Salvation"). "Jellyfishes" has a kick drum that gives it a bit more life, while "Once Britten" (a reference to the modern composer) throws into a heavy drum pattern halfway through the dream. Though not entirely unsuccessful, it still has the hallmarks of enormous talent that's looking for its voice.
