- Now that prices have come down some, I can say: Honestly, this is probably my favorite of the Bill Evans Resonance RSD titles. The sound is not audiophile - it's an audience recording - but the playing is both exquisite, and, unlike most of the other Resonance Evans titles, mostly upbeat. Evans is definitely off junk here. And Morrell has a superb drum solos. If you can grab this one at non-flipper prices and don't mind less-than-stellar sound quality, grab it.

poor recording, below average Bill Evans, not sure what Resonance was thinking about with this onereferencing Evans In England (2×CD, Album) HCD-2037
just retried. wouldn‘t listen to this if being paid the hourly fee of my art lawyer.referencing Evans In England (2×CD, Album) HCD-2037
Regarding the content of this live, just indicate that it presents Bill Evans at a peak in his career. His fluidity and imagination is fabulous. Musically this is a 10 out of 10 album. Personally, I think that one of the best live shows, with a bursting Eddy Gomez. I read a lot of reviews regarding the sound quality but I think they are exaggerated. We must start from the fact that we are facing a recording made by a non-professional, and this is noted in the placement of the microphones. It has some occasional saturation problem, but otherwise the sound is good, and you can enjoy it without being disturbed. Nothing to do with the previous recording in the same place a few years earlier, also published by Resonance and which, in that case, is unbearable and not worth buying. In this case, if we are not exquisite audiophiles, the outstanding quality of the musical content forces us to get hold of this album.referencing Evans In England (2×CD, Album) HCD-2037
Agreed! The new releases and efforts being put forth are exemplary!- Having the opportunity to dive into newly-unearthed material from a deceased jazz genius like Evans is always a pleasure--even with the limitations in recording quality that Resonance had to work with. Hearing the results, Resonance knocked it out of the park with aplomb.
It would honestly be enough if this recording simply existed as a historical document, but I would actually argue it's one of the more incredible Evans live sessions out there, which is saying a lot considering the bootleg nature of this recording, as well as the formidable breadth of Evan's oeuvre to compete with.
This particular recording is an important outing, documenting where the quintet sonically operated in 1969. At this point in time, Evans was enjoying a personally fruitful time in his career, in which he shed his heroin addiction (temporarily at least) playing with vim and vigor once again with his newly-formed and, as it turned out, longest-lasting trio.
The venue's quite intimate setting lends itself to appreciating Gomez's rhythmic, conversational bass playing, locking in beautifully with Morell's drumming. This is especially evident on tracks such as "Waltz for Debby", in which the trio grooves in a faster, more spirited rendition compared to the famous Village Vanguard recording years before. Additionally, both “The Two Lonely People” and the gentle “Sugar Plum” get their first recordings here.
The excitement and chemistry of these three players is clearly palpable in this recording, making it a joy to sink into. Evans spent a lot of time desperately trying to find that magical sound he created with bassist Scott LaFaro, whose life was cut tragically short. In this trio, he finds that magic again. - Edited 3 years agoDefinitely another nadir from the Resonance people. Mr.Morell is a horrible drummer. Can‘t listen to this after Paul, Philly Joe or Jack. Guess Bill couldn‘t either, that‘s how he plays. Good thing is, audio quality is so sub standard you won‘t hear that. Warped, too. Avoid. Really.

Owning number 2426. The by far worst record in my very extensive Bill-collection. In fact this is more like „Marty Morell in England“: piano is very badly recorded, the bass dominates and Mr.Morell‘s fiddling with the metallic parts of his arsenal does the rest. Honestly, you do not want to listen to this. It is horrible. The badly warped records (bought sealed and new for lots of money) do the rest. After several really great efforts by Resonance, this is a very sad letdown. Abstain. Abhorr. Run.- My copy 2817 (i bought it recently...) was terribly warped both the vinyls. i managed to get them flat (almost that is) But what's more the 2nd lp is awefully damaged and lots of disturbances can be heard. I find that incredible for a label that praises their own outings. All the info about this item is not worth it. My copy looks like a missprint for sure. What about quality control ever about this product? Should one buy from Resonance ever? I will be very prudent about buying records from Resonance again. All the fuzz is just a hollow egg. Despite all the stickers...... Avoid.
- Could be a very good realization from Resonce Records ,but all records are dished and warped :
Thanks RTI...
