        Album Revolution # 1:

Alright, here we go!!!!! This is the start of my favorite era of "The Greatest Vocal Group Ever" in "The Temptations"!!!! "Cloud Nine" is not just an album, it's a statement!!!! Think about it...No other album in "Motown" history before this one actually went there, at least not to my knowledge....

To have a song (The Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate. Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel "Title Joint") in that time period really spelling out about the woes of Ghetto Life, and the only thing that this individual felt like he could do is to get high....Now make no mistake, it's wasn't promoting the use of drugs, it was telling about the reality of the situation...

This album also has the Original, Original version of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", before the "Gladys Knight & The Pips", and the super classic "Marvin Gaye" versions.....It doesn't have the flair of those versions, but it is a great version all the same....

The other Ultimate Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel of side 1 is "Run Away Child, Running Wild"...The single version is about 4 minutes and 55 seconds, and I thought that was long for "The Temptations"....This version is a whopping 9 minutes plus long, complete with a runaway screaming, "I Want My Mama"!!!!

Then there's side two, which kind of goes back to vintage "Temptations"....

The whole side is fantastic, but if I had to choose my favorites, it's the 3rd Crown Jewel, "Why Did She Have To Leave Me (Why Did She Have To Go)", "I Need Your Lovin'" and their version of "Love Is A Hurtin' Thing" (the 4th Ultimate Crown Jewel)....

The one thing I should mention is the acquisition of "Dennis Edwards"...

To me losing the vital piece in "David Ruffin", "Edwards" addition was paramount!!!! I read once that where "Ruffin" sang smooth, "Edwards" sang fury!!!! And with the direction the "Temps" were going (thanks to their tried and true producer "Norman Whitfield", and a conversation with "Kenny Gamble"), that fury was very important to get the message through....

This started the Album Revolution for them to me, and after this they never looked back!!!!

This is a great sounding collection of Temptations tunes, a nice mix of their light, pop Motown works, as well as the darker Motown funk jams.

          Good pressing, recommended.

I have a version the same matrix codes, but with the barcode sticker 8011841029565. Anyone else have this version and know when it was released?

I am guessing it is the hidden "Funk Brothers" playing on this.....

Have heard most of this a lot over the years. When it came up to buy in this condition it was a no brainer. Looking over the cover for credits I just shake my head. There are none. I didn't think that was possible. What is the back story on this album.

Side A of this record is one of the coolest things to come from the 1960's. I like the second half alright but Side A is a literal trip. Beautiful sounding album.

This version manufactured by EMI who had a code on the bottom rear sleeve indicating the release date. In this case it's "TM 8108 GL", indicating a release date of August 1981. I'm guessing the 'GL' indicates 'Garrod & Lofthouse", who presumably printed the sleeve.

This is the start (Norman Whitfield!!!) for them into a new league.
From a show act to political influence.
And with Whitfield doing his first steps to getting a genius.
                        He WAS and still IS.
