If the recognition of one's peers is the true measure of success, then few men are as successful as composer, arranger, and conductor Henry Mancini. In a career that spanned 40 years, writing for film and television, Mancini won four Oscars and twenty Grammys, the all-time record for a pop artist.

This is a comprehensive set of most of Mancini's most popular & best-known works in their original versions.
For some the set may be a bit too easy listening (or easy to listen to?) but for serious fans of the composer, it's an essential purchase.

Compilation LP with much of his best stuff...Worked for years at Universal and did music for everything...Had break out hits with Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky themes and then did more and more big screen scoring..."Moon River" hit and he was at the pinnacle of his music career...so revered the USPS even released a memorial stamp in Mancini's honor...Saw him in a huge concert in the gym at the University in Northridge where both he and myself lived just less than a mile away from the campus...Fast paced or mellow, Mancini created the mood on screen... A GREAT American composer......

His TV scoring put him on the musical map...He was a journeyman music guy in the studio system but then, BAM! Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucy hit and Mancini was on the train to "Hit City"...His continual work in TV and later big time movies cements him as a top American composer and arranger...I lived in Northridge in the SFV when I was a kid and Mancini was about a half mile away from our homestead...He stayed there until "Moon River' broke and away he went to Beverly Hills...Heck, he is so good the US Postal service put his mug on a stamp...Mr. Lucky would have loved to have licked one of those for sure...

On the backside of the sleeve Bill Olofson noted back in 1964: "It is an album for musical gem collectors". Nowadays some tracks appear to be rather old-fashioned sentimentalism. Nevertheless a number of tracks stay evergreens as being part of our collective memory. Even today some tracks stay attractive having lost nothing of their inventive and sometimes still surprising original compositional perfection.
