Notes
This album was recorded from September 1985 to March 1986, at Musicland Studios in Munich, at Mountain Studios in Montreux, and at Townhouse Studios in London. Orchestra was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London in early 1986.
Original CD versions featured "extra magical ingredients" in the form of three bonus tracks not available on vinyl or tape (and were the band's first "DDD" recordings).
The same year this was released, the entire Queen back catalogue was reissued on CD for the first time by EMI. This release was reissued once again on CD and tape in remastered form in 1991 for the US and Canadian market on Hollywood Records, using different non-album tracks and remixes not included in the original versions. Parlophone also reissued the remastered versions in 1993/1994, and subsequently, several newly remastered versions were issued. In 2009, the entire back catalogue of Queen studio albums was remastered and re-released again on heavyweight vinyl, with another batch of digital remasters following in 2011 to commemorate Queen's 40th anniversary and their signing to Island Records.

Absolutely crap. A pirate cassette sounds better. Don't buy 2015 Hollywood Records version. Go only for german reissues.- I must agree with some comments left here. Sound could have been far better than it is. I've never experienced the original press, but I do imagine it was better than this, as all vinyls were back then. The sound varies from questionable on One year of love to fine on One vision, and I think on record the best Princes of the universe. The clicks at the end of B1 are there too, as well as on my copy a lot of noise on two-three last rounds on A5. If had to compare it to the same edition of A night at the opera, this doesn't reach it the knee high.
Positive is that the record is very silent, and it comes packed in the antistatic nylon stuffed white paper cover that prevents the record to be damaged, as it's the case nowadays when the records are dispatched mostly in stupid paper sleeves.

The 2009 reissue is superior to this half-speed pressing.
Considering what it means to be pressed from a half-speed master, the distortion this vinyl has is unacceptable.

I bought this record after hearing the Boxset. I was looking for an English copy as in England copy.
Reluctantly I picked this copy up as I saw this in a Japan LP shop. I bought this clearly on the basis of the reviews given here.
And man, thank you to all of this.
This is amazing!!!!!!
The sonics are 11/10.
Buy this.
No regrets. Probably it has the same stamper of the UK cut.

Magnificent mastering, a sense of clean air with Japanese pressings. Clear crisp dynamic and bold. Everything vinyl should be and more. Record is flat deathly quiet but also pristine in its quality of jacket and inners. If the vinyl gods smile upon you and you come across this pressing don’t hesitate!!

The bonus discs are for the most part pretty poor. Live material from already released albums is inexcusable. I know the live track here is from the Friday Wembley show but that’s not the point. Studio and demos only should be used. As for single versions? We have them!
There’s also a jewel case version with Virgin label. This is from 2019?
So after repeated listening this is what I can say about it: first listen was really bad, almost unlistenable. But seeing as it is Abbey Road half speed remaster I applied what I had to do with other AR releases. First, thorough cleaning. All of them have some coating that really damages sound. After washing it, a couple spins under the needle to open up the grooves. After that it started sounding better immidiately. Just like all half speed remasters, it has too much everything. 10% lower treble and bass gave it some space and now it sounds just like it should. It should be noted, this album badly needs a remix, not a remaster. Every single version I heard suffers from same problems most noticable on gimme the prize. Very uneven mix just like the original. Hapoy now with it, but a lot of work to get it to sound right. Listened on ProJect with Ortofon OM10referencing A Kind Of Magic (LP, Album, Gatefold) EMC 3509
