1349 – The Infernal Pathway

1349 is a serious quality mark in the Black Metal community. This album retains the same high level, although the structures of creativity have gone far enough from "True and Evil", there is enough variety in the tracks, more interesting guitar work, referring to the old school, for example, Thrash Metal. Of course, they can still launch a series of super-high-speed machine-gun bursts and knock all the shit out of the listener's brains, but clearly the band does not want to repeat itself and is looking for new musical forms inside "1349". The world is moving forward, today the musicians under the sign 1349 have released a "different" album and this is a chance to expand the audience and expand their own composing capabilities. A solidly built metal album, recognizable within the genre, but backed up by its own experience, taste and vision. After a certain number of auditions, it comes to an understanding that everything is in its place here.

The Seasons of Mist edition is cool, double vinyl at 45 rpm, a gatefold with illustrations and a booklet, red records may not be particularly combined with the design concept, but probably this is the "second" color in metal after regular black. The main thing is that the quality is excellent and the playback is impeccable - in this part, everything is without question. Obviously, the decision to release the gatefold in heavy gloss lamination does not contribute to the durability of the release, but there is no choise to buy other press. An interesting album with decent release quality.

Go back and compare this to older 1349 albums (even Demonoir) and it's quite disappointing... From the lack of ferocity and chaos to the production, I was actually looking forward to this when it was announced as well as hearing the first single "Dødskamp"... but after trying the full album in whole it falls flat for me... Maybe it's the production over everything else, but I do also think of 1349 as a whirlwind of chaos. Ever since Massive Cauldron I lost most of my interest towards this band, and The Infernal Pathway unfortunately isn't bringing it back. I'll try this again later but for now I'll stick to their older releases. Thank goodness for those Hellfire and Apocalypse re-issues.
