Reviews
- Not a bad pressing, specially since it's a unofficial release of the album. Sound pretty damn good in opinion. My only problem is the album sleeve, quality is good, but the art look a bit darker than what it should and burry too. The gatefold inside look like it was not glued good. But overall, not bad opinion, if you were to see for a good price.
- Edited 2 years agoMy copie doesn't have the 3 raised dots near center of label. But the same matrix. My innersleeve is dated with 25/72. Why is this not an original 1972 press? Can anyone explain to me? I suspect, the info with the 3 raised dots is incorrect. Many 1972 Brain Vinyls are without the 3 raised dots! e.g. Sameti, Thirsty Moon, Gash, Os Mundi
- Edited 3 years agoI bought my copy of this album on February 24th 1973. It has not got the 3 raised dots and the number on the inner sleeve is 4912000 11041 25.72. So how can this be a repress from 1974, somebody somewhere has got it wrong big style. Is there anyone out there with the correct knowledge of this label
- As First;
sleeve quality is close to perfect..glossy,thick and clear printing!
Listened it with ortofon 2m blue + marantz pm8006's own phono stage + dali oberon 7 speakers..disc has a little low volume but i am very happy with its general sound..good basses, mid and trebles..i was afraid to this unofficial label's bad reputation but after i spinned this release i am happy now..good job! - Molto molto bello unico nel suo genere, ritmi elettronici miscelati a congas in un mix coinvolgente. Da ascoltare
- Annoyingly, this bootleg has clearly been remastered from a vinyl copy. The very first track 'China' skips slightly, fairly close to the beginning, but there is no audible click, which I'm assuming as been removed through something like izotope's RX or some similar de-clicker/de-crackler
- With plenty of Mellotron lending itself to a base of jazz-rock fusion, the members of the band used improvisation and the skills they had learned from other bands to create a spirited self-titled album. Each track grasps a different type of progressive rock element and tempo so that something new arises with every cut. The lyrics are intelligent and conceptual, effusing a folklore essence in their poetry. But the words soon become overshadowed, especially in the introductory track entitled "China," thanks to the peculiar swing and quiver of the saxophone. "China" is easily the album's strongest, combining a hippie-esque sway to the beatnik pounce of the background drums. When prominent, J. Carthaus vocals reflect a semi-gruff fringe blues sound that clings tightly to the instruments, even when the keyboards are accompanying him. "Devil's Dream" soars on the unaccustomed texture of Carthaus singing, but it's the mysterious-sounding guitar riff and an unsteady, unfamiliar rhythm that makes it unique. In "Material Darkness," the unmitigated horn work makes for an expansive jazz-like backdrop for the guitar and keys. On the whole, the band is a rather pleasing assortment of numerous progressive styles, all of which are steered unwaveringly by a rock-induced composite. Sadly, the band's talents wouldn't prosper any further. After this album, many of Electric Sandwich personnel demanded the band take on a jazzier sound, which led to a dismantling of the group a short time after this release.
