With the four song vinyl EP arriving at you door in a variety of colours, it does make for a nice visual presentation. That said, even with the amazing Leon Bridges floating out his dreamlike vocals, only the song “Texas Sun,” a hazed breezy lamenting interstellar bit of rockin’ soul with enough cozy swagger to ease you on down a dusty road on a hot afternoon is worth your time.

What moves this song in an entirely different direction for R&B artist Leon Bridges is the band Khraugbin, a three piece outfit hailing from Texas, best known for their disembodied funky TexMex surf sounds. All of their songs (from other albums) are backed by an ever present and unescapable centered drumming, drumming that is far too present, repetitive and demanding for my ears, though seems necessary for the sound Khraugbin are creating, coming off as one of those bands you’re either going to love or easily dismiss with the wave of your hand.

*** The Fun Facts: In Thai, Khraugbin actually translates to ‘Engine Fly’, though ‘flying engine’ might be more appropriate.

Along with the compact disc, the vinyl copies can be found in limited editions of Blue, Orange, Purple, Coke Bottle Clear and of course black. You’ve a 50/50 chance of getting a sonically pure sounding record, with many exhibiting quite a bit of surface noise or seeming to be out of phase in some manner, leaving me to say that I’ve heard not a single vinyl copy that comes across sounding worthwhile on a audiophile system.

Played it without a proper cleaning and you get pops to open up Side A. I can hear some surface noice on Side B.

But the music sounds good and overall I am pretty pleased with this pressing. It's not the best but it's good. I think it sounds pretty solid and dynamic. I hope it improves with a cleaning, but that has hardly been the case with most modern pressings not done at the top 2 or 3 pressing plants in the world today.

Bought the orange vinyl, definately something wrong with the left channel. Returned it for another copy, same problem. :(

No issues with the pressing of my copy. Sounds sensational, and the music is essential listening

The music is great but the sound quality is a significant downgrade even from Spotify and there's serious popping on side B (translucent orange). Disappointed :(

Update - I had terrible distortion on my copy so bought a black vinyl copy. Same thing even after a clean with a vacuum record cleaning machine. However, the second play most of it had disappeared and third play, they sound great! Obviously a lot of crud is in the grooves from the pressing plant so I’d recommend wet cleaning it and giving it a few spins (not a hardship when the music sounds so good) and you’ll end up with a perfect copy!

No skips or pops on mine (translucent orange) but bad distortion at higher volume

Love the music and content of this EP. However, the pressing seems like an afterthought. The digital files that come with this record sound significantly better that record itself. Lot of clicks and pops on B side. Not very dynamic and notice a lot of issues when Leon hits that high range. Feels compressed and lifeless. What's the point of buying it on vinyl if it doesn't sound great?

Loving this orange vinyl edition and what a gorgeous selection of tracks. Really happy with the sound on my copy as well. No flaws whatsoever.

Quality is OK due to a few pops on my copy even after a proper cleaning. The record is flat and the translucent orange vinyl is sharp. I think the record sounds much better than the digital files.
