The Cult – Sonic Temple

Sorry, but I can’t throw out the glory for this pressing that others are giving it. While I don’t think it’s a bad press I do think it could and should be better. Playing the CD right behind the vinyl shows what the vinyl is missing. It’s flat and very lacking in stereo separation. I’m not hearing any distortion but I’m also not hearing the punch the CD has and what I remember from the 1989 cassettes. This is a great album and was mixed with a very dynamic sound that this vinyl is not giving. If you’ve just got to have it on vinyl, this is probably your best bet. I’ll keep my copy, and I’ll drop the needle on it when I’m working about the house; when the music matters but not so much the quality of the sound. But if I’m settling into my favorite chair and want to relax by soaking in the awesome music and quality of this album, I’ll be reaching for my CD copy.

Hi there, vinyl collecting newb here.

Does anyone know who distributed this? I'm in Canada and maybe this was an import? I discovered that "The Arkive" denoted on the back and on the cello label refers to the Beggars Banquet vault. I guess that's a thing? Is that typical for Labels to have a separate program?

Apologies if these questions are dumb, I'm just very anal about documenting my collectibles. Appreciate any help, TIA.

This 16-bit remaster, issued 35 years after its debut, sounds amazing. The clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. There's no ear daggers or boomy bass to contend with. This sounds like one of those High Dynamic Range albums, I don't think there's any compression at all. Which means it's time to kill the speakers or my ears, whichever occurs first 😉

dont waste money on them! flat horrible sounds, drums overtuning everything, vocals/guitars disappearing... spend your money buying the 4 non-album tracks at their original issues!

One of my faves musically. This pressing sounds good. Would like a little more space between instruments. Green vinyl looks great and packaging is nice.

This is an amazing rock album and this 1st. Europian pressing sounds great. The sound is fresh, big, punchy and crispy.

I've messaged several sellers and they all tell me they have the wrong one listed and don't bother to change it. It's exceedingly frustrating.

In general, Beggars Arkive have done a great job with The Cult reissues. My first purchase was 'Love' on the translucent red vinyl and it was riddled with pops and clicks so I was sceptical of the other reissues, but my copy of 'The Cult' on white vinyl sounded fantastic, so I took the chance on the Sonic Temple and Ceremony reissues. In terms of sound quality, I'm no audiophile but to me they all sound really good. They do arrive quite dusty so need a good clean, but I have had no warped/scratched records or damaged packages from this label yet.

I gave this record 4/5 stars because it doesn't come with any lyric inserts. Ceremony is not gatefold and comes with lyrics but Sonic Temple is gatefold with no lyrics...not sure why. For the price I paid (£28) I think that it is fair considering many new coloured double LPs cost around £34+ now.

I would recommend this.

It’s a legit tight pressing pressing. I can see why some here would find the sound a dynamics to be a little bit flat, but this album is just as kick ass as it always was. I would prefer a little bit more punch in the bass dept but that is my suggestion for most things I listen to. Solid buy at the price point. This killer collaboration of The Cult & Bob Rock shows both at their finest.
