Shuggie Otis – Freedom Flight

SUPER cool album. Totally recommend picking up an OG or any pressing. Side one is songs with lyrics and side 2 is some bad ass instrumental bluesy music. 🙌🏻

Surprisingly good generic reissue. Nice bass with a good soundstage depth.

Have an original pitman press, this sounds just as good in my opinion for anyone considering this reissue.

It blows my mind that Shuggie Otis was 15 or 16 years old when he recorded this album. The first side is comprised of conventional songs, in an utterly unique hybrid of genres and styles that blend seamlessly, music that seems ahead of its time and from out of time. Side two contains two long pieces, both of which are darker, more brooding and hypnotic, the title track is an instrumental. This pressing sounds very good, with nice range from top to bottom, and a lush, robust soundstage. My copy was purchased new and needed a good wipedown, but plays beautifully.

My version came with a sticker on the outer sleeve, identical to the one on the splatter edition. The sound quality surpasses expectations, serving as an excellent alternative to the original pressing.

I guess there are a few duds in this run, but my copy sounds phenomenal. I’m hit or miss with MOV, but their pressings of this and Inspiration Information are both excellent. Criminally underheard artist and album

Just to add to my review below.... i tried 3 copies all were non fill disasters. I emailed MOV and asked for a repress of this and couple other LPs. I dont know if they listened but 6months later i dipped again and this 4th copy is MOV at their best!!
