Anyone who thinks that good ol' soul disco has no place in this crazy modern world of ours should give a listen to STEP INTO THE LIGHT, the first album by Jersey Street. It's a wonderful amalgam of disco, soul, and gospel, with some deep house thrown in there for good measure. "How Could I Be Loved" is a perfect example of how soul can be infused with house and not lose the strong points of either. Feel the sultriness of "Secrets and Lies," or, even better, the smoky late-night torch song of "Disappear." "Cried Me A River" is an absolute stunner, deep and full of emotion -- definitely the standout on the album. "Vaya A Vivir" leads us into some Latin house, but the rest of the album stays firmly downtempo. A solid effort.
