A German/English hip-hop crew on a label run by a Russian... it's like World War II never happened! Luckily, with Dark Circle's debut, CIVILIANS, the beats are solid, and when the lyrics go bilingual, as on "Amateurs" it adds a exciting texture. And the anti-George W. Bush screed "Smokin Bush" carries anger in its seditious political message. The short interludes "Slumber" brings in some jazz and "Enigmatic Skit 3" some rock-funk, either of which I would have liked to see more of in the longer tracks. "That's Cool" has some of that feel coming in, but it clocks in a little too short to enjoy it fully. Good, if not particularly memorable.
