referencing Gunshot (12", 45 RPM) JP 9004
From the very beginning up to the present day I have always liked the raw, seductive sounds in Da Rick's releases, and Gunshot does not constitute an exception: Da Rick's Hard Mix is a gangster-style bangin' jump track with a somewhat hidden bongo bassline, similar to the one in "Attention" and "Dirty Hands". DJ Da Rick's Edit on the other hand provides a more easylistening experience with a gentler kick along with the bassline being given a stronger presence. You will probably hear the - distorted but still recognizable - sample which made Robert Armani's "Hit Hard" so famous. The vocals are Public Enemy's. However I for one do not consider that to be disturbing because all in all next to the recycling this track definitely contains enough "personality" on its own.
"Yo whazzup? They are tryin' to make hard-core rap dissapear, tryin' to make it final for the vinyl, saying it is time for the wax to relax, and now we wear the sticker like a badge, a sticker here, a sticker there, now what?"
