Agreed with both of the other reviews. This is what Mokum was great for - releases that were still within the typical Dutch hardcore sound but with a slightly atypical approach.
It starts with "The Hard Way" has some fun twisty synth work which develops nicely throughout. "Mokum Madness" is my favourite - which adds some dramatic strings and 90s hip hop to the more usual distorted 909s and hoovers.
Moving onto the B side, "Tunes" is full of energy, with plenty of frantic analogue synth work. Finally, "Hands To The Ears" is a bit more stripped back, with a flatter kick and simpler riffs than the others - the weakest on the EP, but still not bad.
Sadly this is his only full release. But he did also contribute two tracks to the Mokum compilation "Fucking Hardcore 6", which are even more interesting than this EP - one of them being maybe the only Dutch gabber track in 3/4 time! Which makes me wonder what else he could have come up with...referencing The Hard Way (12", 45 RPM) MOK 48
Good solid hardcore production by Lucien Soentik. "The Hard Way" is the main song on here, but the other three songs are not bad either. The average rating should definately be slightly higher for this one I feel too.referencing The Hard Way (12", 45 RPM) MOK 48
If there is one underrated Mokum release to name, this one is the first that comes to my mind. The Hard Way is typical for that energetic 95/96 Mokum Records style. Also contains some more bouncy tracks, which totally represent the fun part in gabber at that time.
