Reviews
- One of my favorite Tempa plates, and they're certainly a fair share to choose from to make that statement exemplify the sheer depth n beauty of these 2 tracks. Peak era of dubstep (at least for me personally, ie 2nd wave 2008-2010) that really metaphysically transports the listener, although the background seagulls n waves don't exactly hurt the visual when you close your eyes n let your mind wander. I'd love to hear a creeping progressive 16minute mix of Leaves!
- Spoken word sample, I think, is British politician Christopher Mayhew who, under medical supervision in 1955, ingested 400 mg of mescaline hydrochloride and was filmed for British TV, although the footage was never actually used. It sneaked out somehow, eventually.
"The Doors Of Perception" is a quote from Aldous Huxley of course, who was himself an advocate of psychedelics. He requested, and obtained, LSD on his deathbed. Now - that must have been some trip. I might try it myself. That would have been the real stuff too.... Sandoz 25, direct from the source... and injected, not on a piece of blotting paper with a picture of Mickey Mouse on it.
(Some stuff I remember taking in 1980 was called'Tetragrammaton' and it had a black magic pentangle and some arcane symbols printed on it, white-on-black on one side and black-on-white on the other. The occult aspect didn't fill me with the greatest confidence. I was young and foolhardy).
This record is a good techy bit of dubstep that sounds better now than when it was made. - Both sides are incredible. The smoothest tunes I've ever heard, the production is fantastic. Minimal and masterful.
- Data's view of dubstep is so deep that you'll not come back from it.
There's a smart way of combine trancy pads and deep dubstep beats on "Doors of perception", and when you flip it you've got a more deeper track, "Leaves", wich use a repeating synth line and a more-than-sub bassline.
One other step into the darker space and twisted mind of this english producer who's becoming the living proof of the english knowledge : "less is more" !
