As with many albums on this label, this was released with different label designs, though all on ''blue/white'' labels. They can be discerned by the label text.
1st pressing: ''New York, USA'' address (1961, mono and stereo versions)
2nd pressing: ''New York, USA'' address but no ear / cursive P for Plastylite pressing plant in dead wax (1966, mono and stereo versions)
3rd pressing: ''A Division of Liberty'' caption. (1967, stereo only)

This is back in stock, as of today, at Music Matters Jazz's website. Prepare to fork over $100 or so, but at least it comes brand new, right? This is BEGGING for a "Classic Series" reissue. Maybe in 2026...- Like a Tone Poet on steroids! Simply superb pressing and packaging of a one of my fave BN records which is a little more under the radar than some. 45rpm and quiet vinyl allow the superb mastering to shine here. Only my second MMJ reissue but wont be the last!
- Just received a 1981 King pressing.
Sounds full, rich, correct.
My matrix #’s do not have 2 888 noted.

referencing Leapin' And Lopin' (LP, Album, Stereo) LNJ-80156
this has an amazing sound, don't think twice about this- Somehow didn't notice this was a Blue Note 75, which I try to avoid. My copy (new Dec 2021) is pretty awful, with squeals and static at random moments. Bummer, as the content is excellent.
Fine press, if a bit stiff. Bass is full and warm, but keys and horns seem a bit thin to me.- My brand new reissue copy is fine. Maybe someday I'll get to hear an original issue for comparison. Nice album
. Love the ballad "Deep In A Dream" Bought it because local DJ by Horace Mansfield Jr./KPFA said it's one of his favorite records.

Of all of Sonny Clark’s great records, this is for me his masterpiece as a musician, composer, and band leader. Each side is superb in its own way, but Side 1 is as sublime a side of post-bop sensibility and execution as ever was recorded in the early 1960s, with the closing track “Melody for C” a harbinger of the soul-jazz to overtake the recording industry by the mid-60s. Clark, like Hank Mobley, does not get enough attention as a composer—and this record shows him at the height of his powers. One of my “desert island discs” for sure.
I got lucky with this US pressing, and what a GREAT album!!!
