Paul Chambers Sextet – Whims Of Chambers

Again, like BLP 1576 & BLP 1559 in the same series... This is THE digital copy to own! An excellent direct transfer from the original mono masters in 2017. The Red Book versus DSD levels on this hybrid are audibly indistinguishable at most levels, although the DSD has a much lower noise floor as expected.

A rather wild and crazy outing that is all over the place musically. Both layers have their merits. Not the best recording, as the horns are too up front.

This pressing is really great. The mono sounds great, which is important for an album with so many bass solos. The sleeve also looks amazing. It's heavy and shiny like original pressings. For the price this Japanese pressing of this rare album is well worth it and comes highly recommended.

This all star ensemble plays original numbers by Chambers, Byrd or Coltrane. There's some decent soloing, it's all OK, I think "Dear Anne" and "Tale of The Fingers" are my high points.
