I've always listened to this record at 33rpm, and it makes much more sense that way... especially side two, which sounds like the 'chipmunks remix' to me when I hear the CD/digital version. I often wonder if they actually meant for it to be played at different speeds – especially given the apparent playing speed on the tape version. Anyway, I recommend side two at 33rpm!

I bought this release when it was first put out but later had to sell a bunch of my vinyl collection. So last year I found another for sale on discogs and bought it. I highly recommend listening to these chilling songs by Coil. It is excellent and worth any high price you might have to pay to get your own copy of it!

This is by far my favorite Coil release, if just for the fact that it could have been what accompanied one of the greatest horror movies of all time, until the studio people butted in. Ah well, our loss. At least we can hear what might have been, some of the most melodic sounds from this band ever. There is also a track on 'Gold Is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders)' called 'Cardinal Points' that was recorded during these sessions and was meant to appear on the Hellraiser soundtrack, an excellent addition to this stellar landmark.

Coil were approached to compose the soundtrack for Hellraiser, the result was apparently the only record Clive Barker had ever heard that he had to turn off because it 'made his bowels churn'. Jessie! Surely that would be the desired effect for a good Hellraiser soundtrack...
This is seriously good stuff, and the advert shorts on the B-side are paradoxical fun as well...
