Jonas Bering's debut, BIENFAIT, eschews the song titles all together for nine untitled tracks. And perhaps that's for the best, as "1" starts with the subdued energy, while "2" takes it in a slightly deeper direction. The beats are kept somewhat muffled, though unmistakable throughout. "3" has more of a mellower dub swagger, though, and "4" takes the dub straight back to the techno. The spare "6" has a more industrial edge to it, while "7" loops in the disco for some more straight-up dancing. The long "8" gives a thorough examination of its upbeat dub techno before "9" takes the album down on some ambient notes held together by some tribal percussion. Bering puts the 'bien' in BIENFAIT.

An amazing early Kompakt release whose sounds blend forward thinking Dub Techno, Ambience and Minimal esthetics.
I found this LP used and in mint condition. I must say that I am grinning ear to ear. What a great find! Each song is well produced and offers a hypnotic beat laded journey that will please any fan of the aforementioned genres.
Amazing sonic material!

Very nice ambient-like techno album of the minimal genius from Lille, France. Listen to it at home in the dark and you will be in a very cold, heavy industrial environment.
Track D1 can without a doubt be played in a club. This album is a must have for dubtechno ambient-techno lovers!

Sometimes it takes a good bit of searching to find the right deep, minimal techno to quench your thirst. If you are reading this, congratulations, you've somehow managed to find a great work. Jonas Bering, a name I'd never heard of myself until I bought a random deep techno 12" record with his name on it. Later I discovered he had a CD, "bienfait," which in French translates "kind deed." Certainly it is a kind deed of Jonas to bless our ears with this smooth composition and its' innocuous delivery of electronic dub techno. Not as cold, repetative, or raw as Porter Ricks (whom I also admire) but a slightly smoother and experimental flavor similar to acts like MRI or UNAI. And best of all, Mr. Bering doesn't hold back on track lengths due to CD format; track "8" is over 13 minutes long! The CD artwork is beautiful, and rather than pulling obscure track titles out of a hat, Jonas decides to display no track listing at all. Nice.
