I have never heard an original, but I do know that even its sound was quite lo-fi. That said, this Strata reissue definitely sounds like a "needle drop" (master used was a clean vinyl rather than original tapes). Sound is definitely distorted and sounds compressed, THAT said, its cheaper price tag probably hints at that and it makes an ultra rare record accessible to many. All in all, it will do as a collection placeholder until I find a better copy (Wax Poetics?) or who knows...I may stumble on an original one day that is miraculously priced by somebody who doesn't know what it's worth.

I find this BBE pressing to be truly excellent. It is better than the wax poetics release on my system at least, and much better than the 2001 re-release. The master tape 'distortion' on this pressing appears to be very faithfully reproduced, which I find a superb experience. If you want less of that, or your system is not great at tracking, or you are going to use it only for DJ, the wax poetics one is maybe a good choice.

Can anybody tell me the what's etched into the run out of this version?

I don't know if there was an inconsistency in the pressing but my copy sounds really nice. And funny enough the distortion is actually more enjoyable on my copy than the online version, as it is not blowing out, but is actually quite crisp. And the entire mix throughout is totally fine. Very thick record when sealed, and one of my vinyls did also have visible scuff marks, but by no means did this effect the sound. If you see it in the store, id say its worth the risk under $30.

Sound isn't as good as the BBE / Wax Poetics reissue, as presumably it was done from an original pressing rather than the master tapes. Nevertheless, the original material is hardly hi-fi anyway, so in my opinion it doesn't detract from it that much - if anything, the slightly distorted sound only adds to the experience.

This is being reissued by BBE in November as a double LP, so hopefully it will sound as good as the Wax Poetics version.

Yes unfortunately the pressing is well below par. What a shame

Anyone have any comment on the sound / pressing quality of this please? I have the other re-issue and would consider this an upgrade if it sounds decent. Thanks

My copy sounds weak. Not a great pressing. Anyone else have a problem?
