Excellent album. Although released at the very peak of the "Goa hype", and released on one of the major labels at the time, this album has a very pleasant unpretentiousness and maturity. Nothing overdone, no overly dramatic climaxes, and, thankfully, no pseudo-spiritual bullshit.
I'm a big fan of Jens Waldebäck's trance legacy, and believe he pioneered both a really excellent Dutch "techy breaksy" psy-scene in the late 90's as well as being an inspiration for the early Spiral Trax sound of Sweden, especially Human Blue and Atmos. Super high production value, warm and melodic, still with a certain Nordic and/or urban touch.
My warmest recommendation! referencing Illegal (3×12", 33 ⅓ RPM, 45 RPM, Album) BR028LP
Memory foam is the standout track here amongst a few other excellent tracks.referencing Illegal (CD, Album) BR028CD
Can't really say enough good things about Jens' work. It stands head and shoulders above much of the contemporary trance music out there. Great detail around the percussion that I have always been a sucker for. Dive in!referencing Illegal (CD, Album) BR028CD
Though a bit underestimated, this is a VERY GOOD album..!
Far from the typical Goa Trance sound of the mid-90ies, this makes it special.
Intelligent - emotional - trippy acid drenched tracks, varied soundwise - "160° Madness" could even be tagged as a Drum n Bass one - but all of them arranged in the way of a concept album, giving the feeling of a continuous, weird, psychedelic journey.
"Memory Foam", "Tellus-D", "Injection" and of course "I Don't Wanna Shrink" really stand out..!
It isn't easily "digestible" stuff, i know, but give it a loud listen.. This will lead to a second one, to say the least..
