I bought 'Project 1' because I thought it was this. Imagine my dissapointment whenI got it home and discovered it wasn't. You know we rock, we roll, we jam and we mix, and all those other DJs got off of our dicks ! It was always that infectious vocal sample that hooked me into this tune. I did eventually got the right record in case anyone is wondering...

Regardless of which mix we prefer I’d have to say it’s one of my favourite tunes ever 🙌

Has to be the "Club Mix" mix for me, with its huge piano line that just simply took the roof off. This to me is proper Italian House from 1990 & I still love it when it drops !!!! Big in the Hacienda / Quadrant Park, Shellys to name but a few. Maybe from the comments it was a North / South thing on which mix to go for, but hey as long as your dancing & smiling who cares !

The real gem here is the Club Mix that destroyed dance floors from the Hacienda, Quadrant Park, Shelleys and the countless illegal parties in the north of England back in 1990 and 1991. I am confused by all these comments below as The Rising High Dub is a bland break-beat affair where nothing happens.

Rising High Dub samples Schoolly-D - Put Your Fila's On https://www.discogs.com/Schoolly-D-Schoolly-D/master/153883 "You know we rock, we roll, we jam and we mix" . The sample appears at the end of Schoolly-D's track. P.s Vocal sample taken from a 'Jesse Jackson' speech. Which iit is not. But If Jesse Jackson had actually said this to the then President a lot of people would have applauded him! ;)

This is what the game was missing in 90-91...

Rising High Dub! Tracks like this were slowly forming the jungle sounds which were on the way in... Moment In Time is a fantastic bleep roller and a big favourite of the likes of DJ Kenny Ken, Randall etc.

Catchy drum loop, cool hip hop sample (don't think it's a Jesse Jackson speech as above?!) and hypnotic bleep keys... Complimented by a memorable b line. This one rolls & rolls. I've played this out - a place will go nuts! One for your collection.

"Rising High Dub" was basically the basis for Project One "A Few Dollars More" which was released shortly after this, both use the same bassline, beats & happy mondays sample but each has different elements on top, "A Few Dollars More" just nudges it for me, but I guess this was the bigger tune back in the day.....

Aretha Franklins vocal was famous for appearing in many Italo House tracks between 88 to 1992, but this time, rather than sample Aretha Franklin from her 1987 gospel album 'One Lord, One Faith, One Baptism', 4For Money (Marco Bongiovanni / Easy B of DJH & Stefy fame) chose to sample the speech By Rev. Jesse Jackson from the album. Using parts of the Jesse Jackson speech and a replayed piano, which was originally from 'The Rolling Stones - We Love You'. 4For Money had put together an exciting Italo House anthem, that was massive in the UK clubs in the early 1990s and was picked up by label Tam Tam in 1990 for major UK release.
Back in the early 90s, clubbers / ravers would have their own interpretations of what the male vocal said, I for one, always thought the vocal said "Get ready, Its a moment in time, from the our house", when In fact Jesse Jackson actually says "Church, get ready, It's morning time, from the out house".
Sounds silly now, especially now that I know he chants 'Church' through the song, (heaven knows what I thought he was actually chanting back then in the early 90s), the italians had a way of making us believe something else was being said back then.
All in all, an excellent Italo House piano gem, that should be in every vinyl enthusiasts old skool collection, a proper hands in the air classic.

It really was all about the "Rising High Dub" with this release in 1990. There was definitely a marked preference by the London crowd for this mix. The other mixes are more in the italo piano vane which appealed more to residents north of Birmingham or across the channel. Whereas this mix contained funky, skippy breaks - think The DOC - Portrait Of A Masterpiece - hypnotic bleeps and an infectious dubwise, sub-bass groove which got everyone's head nodding.

Being dropped into practically everything. From straight house, hip hop, hip-house, breakbeat, acid, new beat, balearic to techno.

This kind of stuff was loosely called "ragga or dub techno" at the time and possibly a precursor which contributed to the breakbeat hardcore and jungle techno sounds emerging later on. Everyone who was about at the time knows this warehouse classic. Blaring out of every warehouse, underground club and illegal venue. Not forgetting all the subwoofers and basstubes in ravers' cars it must've rattled and shaked to death.

A remixed version was soon released in a much more bleepy, melodic, hyperactive. And for me, an even better & more accomplished form under the name of Project 1 "A Few Dollars More" which appeared on the Project 1 EP (Cat# TTT 033). Which also happened to be Project One's debut release.
