- The sound in the left speaker keeps cutting out during play. Did a light clean before playing. Bought this new.
- 20 years for a 21st century klassick to be pressed on vinyl, i agree, hard to believe. Ordered from Real Gone and the album arrived in perfect condition. Red vinyl looks superb and flat at 140 grams on my scale. Sounds clean, excellent and loud. Sounds like it was meant to be on vinyl. No issues with fade out or cut out to right or left. I'd say get a copy while you can. And I would say always, always clean new albums before the first play, also, upon the first passes of cleaning do not use much pressure. I use a basic solution with velvet brush or lint free cotton rag.
- Hard to believe this took 20 years to be pressed on vinyl. Such a classic album, filled with power metal lyrics, speed metal guitars and more than a little DIY punk attitude. The single matte slipcase is no frills but well executed. The clear red vinyl looks stunning and was perfectly flat. I ordered from Real Gone, and the record was packaged about as well as you could expect and arrived in perfect condition. The audio was loud and clear and sounded great all the way through on my copy. Real Gone has been absolutely killing the reissue game, from selection to execution and I wish more labels would take notes from them.

Klipsch R-101 SW - Edited one year agoSo just received my copy and overall it sounds great, however, I noticed the sound cuts off on the left speaker randomly, goes to the right side, then comes back to the left side, and just keeps kinda switching randomly. The volume kept getting quiet and I thought it might have been my setup going out or something, so I tried other records and they sound fine. So it's happened a couple times on both sides of this record. LMK if any of yall have any issues with the sound

I really wanted to like this one. I love the idea of a group of younger musicians taking the classic heavy metal sound and giving it a modern edge, and there’s no denying the fact that 3 Inches of Blood are all about the metal. Unfortunately their execution – at least on their 2004 debut Advance and Vanquish – just isn’t what it should be.
Let’s start with what works, and to be fair there’s a lot that the band gets right. They have a great mix of thrash and traditional heavy metal, balancing speed and power pretty well. Their lyrics are also a plus, cheesy as they may be. They follow the same warrior and occult lyrical themes that all the old Metal Massacre bands did back in the day, and that always puts a smile on my face. “Enemies of metal, your death is our reward” is an example from “Deadly Sinner”, the album’s best track. The musicianship is tight, and there’s a great sense of aggression and energy.
Sadly, nearly all of Advance and Vanquish’s better attributes are overshadowed by the dreadful vocal performance. I’m not talking about the shouted background vocals, which are killer, but the nails-on-a-chalkboard lead vocals by Cam Pipes. Screaming vocals usually work perfectly in metal, but when this guy opens his mouth it sounds like someone torturing that Elmo muppet with Painkiller playing in the background. Now, I usually try to overlook a single bad element and enjoy the album as a whole, but that’s just not possible here. The vocals are the dominant element on Advance and Vanquish, and that’s definitely not a good thing.
As much as I’d like to, I just can’t recommend this one. Download (legally, of course) “Deadly Sinner” if you want to get an idea of 3 Inches of Blood’s sound, but the full album is just too much to take.
PS – If you want to hear this kind of music done right, check out Widow’s Nightlife or Midnight Strikes.referencing Advance And Vanquish (CD, Album) RR 8274-2
