- Edited 5 years agoIncredible disco instrumental pressed on the early side in 1976 and featured on the cult Deep Disco Culture Volume 1 on Suss’d Records. Tom Moulton really tore it up on this one and when the singers come in at the end of the side I get tears in my eyes just wishing I was out on the floor at the Paradise Garage. Hell, I’d settle for 12 West on that one!

This is the one you want... Helplessly is the killer track! The promo does not have this on the B-Side.referencing So Much For Love (12", 45 RPM) 12D-2009
B-side ("Helplessly") is a great song as well!- Edited 4 years ago1976. One of the finest orchestrated Disco pieces ever. Special credits and respect must be given to the unparalleled arrangements of Norman Bergen's approach on the tune with Reid Whitelaw.
Sometime ago, I had the privilege to interview Norman himself about the masterpiece. He remembers it:
"Yes, I wrote all the parts including string lines; directed the session with my co-writer and co-producer Reid Whitelaw. I am a pianist, composer & arranger. I wrote the melodies to all my songs and wrote by hand each musician's part: violin, viola, cello, trumpet, trombone, reeds, all note for note. I hear it in my head then write it out; by hand in those days - that is my main area of expertise. Rhythm parts - piano, guitar, bass, drums & percussion are 50% up to the creativity of each player. That is why the rhythm players matter so much on pop recordings. That's where the groove is created. Strings and horn players must be expert quick readers and understand each style."
The Truth about 'So Much For Love' (specially Tom Moulton's instrumental version) is that your life will never be the same after you hear it.” referencing So Much For Love (12", 45 RPM) 12D-2009
It's not the first 12 inch ever pressed (that's a long story) but is one of the first "commercial" 12's...- Edited 14 years agoThe instrumental is my favorite disco song of all time. Granted I'm a youngster (only 24) and haven't listened probably to as much disco as most aficionados, Tom Moulton's mix just really stands out for me, how it builds and that.
According to Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton's book Last Night a DJ Saved My Life (2000), this is the first 12" single ever pressed. I think the instrumental in particular is just a monster and if you can find it anywhere, spend the money to get it. MOT really pulled it off in that session. - The Tom Moulton instrumental is personnaly my all time favourite track.
Epic, very very beautiful instrumental, with many many beautiful deep feelings ; i found this record in November in a small record shop in Paris that's closed today, bought it for 10 euros (12dollars) the seller was involved into RAP music & didn't know anything about true soul music, , it's one of the rarest Tom Moulton mixes, one of the first I think, rare as hell.
But a record is not good because it is rare ; just put the needle on the record push play then you'll know why a track is good or isn't - and this one belongs to la creme de la creme.
You can really tell that the ex members of MFSB are involved here. Tight, exciting and hypnotizing... very very very beautiful instrumental.. Magic sound, piece of heaven.
Absolute magic, one of my favourite Tom Moulton mixes. Everything a disco record should be..
