A great album, with no dud or filler tracks. TM albums are generally a mix of the excellent and some lame covers or let down tracks, but not this one. I was lucky to pick up a decent copy for £3: gave it a wet wash and it plays fine with the odd pop and crackle.- Edited one year ago
referencing In The Groove (LP, Album, Stereo) TS 285
With all the success that "Marvin Gaye" had at this time (including with "Ms. Tammi Terrell"), it seemed like he just could not go wrong....That continued with the release of "In The Groove" (a/k/a "I Heard It Through The Grapevine", as it was renamed later).....
I really believe that this is one of the best albums for "Marvin" in the '60's....
What also helps, is that, "R&B" music was starting to have more musical creativity....."Motown" was at one time being accused of being stagnant, and formulaic.....I do believe that watching what "The Temptations" was doing (starting with "Cloud Nine and the "Psychedelic Soul" era) started the creative juices flowing....
The album started with 1st Crown Jewel in "You"....Starting with the Guitar and Drums, this joint has "Marvin" reaching creative heights more than ever...Yeah, he has a smooth Voice, but now he had attitude added with that smoothness....
The 2nd Crown Jewel, "Chained", is another attitude Jumpin' joint, with Blazin' Horns all over it....
The Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate, Ultimate. Ultimate, Ultimate Crown Jewel is of course "I Heard It Through The Grapevine"...
Written by my favorite "Motown" Brothers, "Norman Whitfield" and "Barret Strong", this joint is just IT!!!!!!!! Yeah it's smooth, but it has extreme attitude!!!!! It may not be the original (which was done by "The Temptations"), and even though it was a Massive Hit for "Gladys Knight & The Pips", this one is a Googungest # 1 HIT!!!!!! (RIP Brother Barret)....
The 4th Crown Jewel, "At Last (I Found A Love)", is a love letter between "Marvin" and his Wife, "Anna Gordy Gaye" (who also help him Write the song along with "Elgie Stover")....
"Marvin's" version of the "Gerry Goffin" And "Charole King' classic, "Some Kind Of Wonderful", was the perfect song for his smooth Crooning Vocals...
The last song worth mentioning is the upbeat, "You're What's Happening (In The World Today), which was a nod to the way People was looking to the right now, but with love....
The rest of the album, again, I need you Guys for info....
I tell you what though...It was this album that spelled nothing but possibilities for "Marvin"...But as usual, where there's ups, there are downs....That would happen down the line....But, at least right here, "Marvin" was very satisfied with that success..... - This album was released in Brazil with the name 'I Heard It Through The Grapevine' on CD format by Universal Music.
Don´t have the mention of the year it was released
The Barcode is 73145302582.
I can send images of the CD.
