Reviews
- The music is very fine and the mastering excellent, but my copy has more surface noise than I would have expected. Not terrible, but definitely audible throughout. Maybe I just got a bad one, but I pulled out my copy of Hampton Hawes' Four! from the same series, and it has some noise as well. I cleaned both a second time, just to be sure, but not much improvement. I'm not saying it's a deal-breaker in either case, but not as silent as other posters here have suggested. I would still buy either of them again, regardless, because the music and mastering are top-notch.
- Aside from the standard flaws of Dunann hard panning its another great sounding, very nicely pressed Contemporary BG remaster. Keep them coming please Craft/AS!
- This is a fantastic pressing. Dead quiet wax and it is a great release from Craft. Just sit back, put this on and enjoy the rich ride you will embark on.
- Edited one year agoCertainly a case of don’t judge something by its cover, but I’m happy to admit this cover looks quite good sitting on the now playing stand….
But yeah the music in the grooves isn’t what you would expect from a look at the cover image. This is smart and well played bop which has been recorded in a typically wonderful way by Contemporary.
Can’t find one thing to critique about either the music or the pressing. Like a lot of these Contemporary sessions, this sounds utterly spectacular. Another great release from this Craft series. - I didn't really know much about Curtis Counce when I preordered this. What a pleasant surprise this album turned out to be. Sometimes you take that chance and don't get the reward, but not this time!
- I really am enjoying this pressing; I am familiar with this record via Tidal/ Roon but this LP is a whole new level of sound!
- Edited one year agoMy only …”complaint” seems like a strong word… Is that it sounds like it was mixed as either Right or Left and thus leaving the center rather quiet.
The sounds coming out of the Right and Left are crisp, clean, dynamic, and absolutely gorgeous.
If there is something I’m clearly not understanding, please let me know. - Wowzers. This sounds friggin amazing!! Superb release. Flat and quiet and just brilliant recording and playing
