- Long time ago when I bought this compilation I wasn't that excited. Probably because I already had bought some of the tracks on 12" but still had to buy this since there were tracks I didn't know anything about and had to check.
I don't like when they put downtempo tracks on the same sides as uptempo tracks like on the A-side: Inner City with their housy "Ain't Nobody Better" gets assaulted by Soul II Soul's "Keep On Movin'" which kills the party feeling just like that. Maze's "Join And Pain" is even more down tempo.
Don't get me wrong, these are excellent tracks but why do the record companies mix them together with banging dance tracks? Either put slow jams at the beginning or the end of a record, in this case they all could be on side D.
Despite these minor misjudgements this must have been one of the best "Pop-House" compilations released back in 1989. This is even better today because it's packed with timeless classics by Tone Loc, Cookie Crew, Tyree Cooper, Cappella, Chanelle and more.
There is not one bad track on this release even though I don't adore the D-mob and Paula Abdul tracks as much as the rest. Only one thing is bad, the lack of bass. Pressing isn't top and after many plays clicks appears when songs fade out. It's a shame.
This still is a super release and a perfect guidance for those who want to know how Pop/House/Hip-House sounded back in the late 80's.
