- Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannn!!!
After having not listened to this in 17 years or so, I was warmed and embarrassed by a couple tunes (Banco De Gaia) and cringed a little at some others I think I used to enjoy.
The real stand out always was and still is A Positive Life " The Calling".
I would like to hear this remastered by a better engineer as it's rather muddy on the soundsystem. Perhaps it could go one for another hour or so as well. Great tune! - Edited 13 years agoThe first of the A.D. Series. Continuing from the Beyond labels Ambient Dub series and ambient dub movement.
H.I.A , A Positive Life, Pentatonik, Sandoz, G.O.L. And others were at home here in this series to what they were doing around the time. While it doesn't really feature too much techno the ambient, dub and downtempo were all futuristic sounding enough to tie it to techno. Bleeps, spacey melodies and even acid lines helped that. Some of these dare I say, are psychedelic at times which I believe evolved into the psy chill genre. The looseness of the tracks here made with real machines pre internet give them the staying power for me allot did not have post 1995. Some of these branch into a dub feeling Cafe Del Mar sound. if you like Excursions into Ambience series on Astralwerks you should also have this series.
This series continued with my favorite TWO A.D. A year later which went a bit deeper than volume 1's sounds. After volume 3 in 1996 it disappeared until the sublime Four A.D. In 2003 Which I believe is very underrated. Possibly because it was so underrated a fifth volume never saw the light. But then again this series made a small comeback through classic collectors, through Waveform continuing on still today... there might be hope for another volume...we hope.
