Reviews
- This review applies to the 2024 repress of these reissues. Points stated here apply to both "Hex" and "Codename: Dustsucker".
First things first: Not only is it great music but it was also recorded pretty well. Both albums differ vastly in their recording approach, as Hex was recorded in a church and sounds very open and wide, while Dustsucker has more of a rehearsal room/jazz club feeling. Both of these approaches work out great!
Now to some criticism and feedback: This is post rock, meaning it is at times super quiet! I think Fire Records was very well aware of this, which is why Hex is even pressed at 45rpm to reduce surface noise.
However, they shot themselves in the foot with these innersleeves! They are just plain paper, so all the effort put into vinyl and press quality is lost because the record already gets scratched during transport and hence is not quiet enough to get into the music.
This is super annoying and I have no idea, why this is still done in 2024. Even if these came at a 2.50 to 5 dollar/euro markup due to good innersleeves, most fans would still buy them just to have a clean copy and a good overall reissue. Instead they pay a slight markup for some extras (45rpm) that in the end do not bring any added value. Even worse, one has to hope that a record clean will hopefully get rid of the noise.
So overall, decent reissues but these small mistakes that could have been easily avoided unfortunately just detract from listening pleasure. - Very late to write a review of this. Sensational pressing. Absolutely astounding. Miss abuse sounds like the best song they ever did on this pressing. Whoever mixed this record for this pressing deserves the highest honors available. TOP TOP RECORD
- Sounds great. My only wish for this pressing is that it is a single vinyl like the original instead of 2x vinyl.
- Sounds so good, wow. Need this for Hex, too. turntablelab has it in stock for those in the USA: https://www.turntablelab.com/products/bark-psychosis-codename-dustsucker-vinyl-2lp
- Pressing is great. Flat profile and is almost dead silent, save for a couple of clicks, but probably just needs a proper wet cleaning. The mix makes the music feel more alive with the added space and breadth of the stereo imaging (which judging by past commenters, beats out the CD and original vinyl releases). No poly-lined inners or even paper sleeves, but the packaging has its feeling of "quality" with the glossy inners and crispy clear, beautiful artwork on both sides of the gatefold.
Worth the pick up. - I love this album. I heard this a few times years ago but wow this is something special. My copy sounds great but does have quite a bit of noise, pops and clicks and crackles. I'd hardly call it a good pressing in fact it's pretty shitty. The sound aside from the added pops and clicks is fantastic however.
- Edited 2 years agoRecord sounds fantastic! The pressing and packaging quality is superb. This band is truly one of a kind.

I know it's not the done thing round these parts, but the CD sounds bloody excellent. As they start popping up cheap as everyone bins them off for the vinyl repress you could grab yourself a bargain.
