referencing Beaster (LP, Album) CRELP 153
Mastering by Howie Weinberg and Lacquer cut by George Peckham sort of gives you a picture, but can't really prepare you for what's to come: a wall of sound so monolithic and yet so detailed it hurts and soothes your ears at the same time.
This is Sugar at the pinnacle of their game, and listening to Judas Craddle with awe,it seems only natural that they never quite managed to deliver this kind of melodic power distortion on stage.
Stellar music and Vinyl.referencing Beaster (LP, Album) CRELP 153
I just bought this after 30 years with the cd. It's a great pressing, quiet vinyl and dynamic sound. I haven't heard the reissue, but can recommend this release.referencing Beaster (LP, Album) CRELP 153
Afraid my experience is different
Pristine vinyl pretty much but the sound is muddy, quiet and it seems a little distorted…
Similar to my Copper Blue also first press and bad sound
Glad it’s now in my collection but a disappointing one SQ wisereferencing Beaster (CD, Mini-Album) CRECD 153
After creating a lot of great music with Hüsker Dü, Bob Mould released Two solo records that were ok. With Sugar he Continued bringing Great music to the people, thanks to the success of nirvana, this time with some chart success. But after classic Copper blue, he created this quite anti-commercial 30 minute, 6 track Lp/Ep and the success left as soon as it had arrived. Personally i love opening and closing tracks. In between is solid heavy guitar music, always hiding melody and something hymnal. Euphoric shower music... For the willing.referencing Beaster (LP, Album) CRELP 153
Spectacular sound on this one, identical to the cd. At least I dont hear any difference.. maybe the lp is a bit punchier, but that may be because of the format itself.referencing Beaster (CD, Mini-Album) CRECD 153
Sugar and Mould's masterpiece. More intense than Copper Blue... 'teeth-grindingly hard' was Bob's mission statement. And boy, does he deliver, and then some. Allusions to religious imagery abound in the titles and the lyrics, and the final track is a multi-tacked organ that sounds positively evangelical. Even the positive lyrical screed about walking away from relationships and gaining one's liberation are tinged with the feeling that you are going to walk back into their arms. Angry, intense, essential.
