Swervedriver – Mezcal Head

This is a great pressing of a great album. The only bummer is that “Never Lose That Feeling” - one of the best songs on the album - isn’t on it. I still bought it, though, and am glad that I did.

I'm shocked they got this beast of an album on a piece of Vinyle. But it's all there, except for Never Lose that Feeling, a US-only bonus track.

This album really puts me in a happy place. It has aged really, really well. Seriously beautiful pressing too. Very clean and dynamic.

Great pressing, a good step up from the previous MOV release. To be honest, I haven’t compared to the OG A&M black vinyl release (yet). This one is solid and if you get a chance, it’s likely the best pressing for the value. I found the packaging to be better on this one as well. Better stock on the jacket, beautiful blue marble wax, poly lined inner sleeve and this one actually came with the insert/lyric sheet. Solid buy.

This album and band were arguably one of the most overlooked of their day. While many Swervies would differ on which album was their best, most would thoroughly agree that this is and was their most accessible to the average Joe or Jane. As far as what is presented here, MOV could’ve done far better on a couple of points a) mine didn’t come with and insert and b) the cover art is cropped (it is a beautiful photo, especially all of it). On the other hand, the vinyl itself and it’s “Mezcal” color is pretty badass. It’s really unique looking. But what it most important is the sound. I listened to this album 1000’s of times and can say with a high degree of certainty that this pressing is basically a cd to vinyl. This album really does deserve the mastering and a pressing that can clearly show the presence and sonic treatment that they were known for. It’s a good looking pressing and it doesn’t sound bad, but anyone who knows this band and this album knows that it could be so much better.

If you took Joni Mitchell chord progressions, Sonic Youth noise and tunings, Stooges Motor City rama-lama and boatloads of guitar pedals and crammed them in a blender you still wouldn't end up with Swervedriver. One of their best. Maybe THEE best. Great pressing from the MOV peoples. Nice.

A masterpiece and the pressing to own! Melodic with excellent clarity for the wall of sound this is.

Sounds fantastic! I am thankful the record was the correct one because the insert was for another band's record. Emailed MOV....hopeful they will correct the issue.

It sounds as good as the original 1993 CD, which probably is (was?) the way to go. QUIET all the way, zero clicks or pops. Cover photo doesn't look like a cd scan, which is nice. Includes insert, but don't know if it's an original replica. The matrix/runout has some scratched/erased numbers that seem the same of the hi speed soul release... same stamps? A very good reissue at a very good price.
