Just found out about The Sushi Club after going through a lot of dull or cliche downtempo albums in discogs recommendations. The typical problem with this genre is the lack of originality or going too experimental.
This is not the case with Sakura by The Sushi Club. Whole album is smooth and seamless listening experience from beginning to the end. Soundscapes are wide and refined, yet retaining warm, organic feel to them. It's safe and familiar, yet fresh and intriguing at the same time. Dreamy, oceanic sweeps and soul cleansing bleeps are delivered with a catchy, mesmerizing pulse. Everything is restrained yet there's plenty of dynamics and originality in this album, thanks to the nuanced jazz elements, haunting japanese vocals and complex percussion. Everything is glued together in a very solid manner with emphasis on ambiance. Just lay back and enjoy.
There's a lot of common with one of my favorite album of this genre, Yasume - Where We're From The Birds Sing a Pretty Song.
Hard to find original yet enjoyable releases on this genre like this one. Liked a lot on first listening, would listen again. Highly recommended.

What amazing works by the Sushi Club. Even after almost 11 years from its first release this album still brings shivers down my spine. These tracks are truly timeless and I am ever so glad to own this gem.
Mr. Tomio Tremmel, I am glad I found you here on this site. If you see this message, I would like to express my great appreciation towards your works and this album in particular. Whenever I have a bad day or make an important decision, I put this disk on and my mind becomes clear.
Beautiful music. There are no other words to describe it. It is pure and beautiful. So many feelings and emotions are in this album. Thank you so much, Sushi Club. This album will continue to give me meaning for years, if not decades, to come.
