- Edited one month agoSame experiment. Mastering is great but vinyl at first listen sounds horrible with lots of pops and clicks. This may be related to some factory issues that in my experiment are greatly reversible. This is my personal formula : Firstly, ++ protect the label with, for example, the Dynavox Labelschutz LP120 (Amazon). Then, spread a layer of diluted baking soda with a brush, focusing on the grooves in circular motions. Wait 10 minutes. Then, use another brush to apply acetic acid (white vinegar). There is a chemical reaction and it foams with nice little bubbles. Wait another 10 minutes. Then, wash the vinyl with hot (40°C) water and dishwashing detergent, then for the final stage with demineralized water. Remove the Dynavox Labelschutz LP120. Leave it to dry for one hour then play it. Lots of dirt can be seeen from the stylus. Important : There is NO risk of damaging the LP. With this technique, on this Nick Cave vinyl, 95% of the clicks and pops are gone. Enjoy !
- Just wanted to add my two penneth, given the comments below about pressing quality etc.
My copy is quiet, noise floor is very low, a little noise in the run in, but otherwise, nothing at all to report. Straight out the sealed copy and on a Mk5 1200. I think there is an expectation given years of noiseless Digital media there there is no noise straight out the cellophane with Vinyl, and perhaps given my vintage (I've been listening to records for 50 years at least) my expectation is lower, or even, just not there when it comes to fresh virgin vinyl, but there is nothing obtrusive, or enjoyment affecting with my copy for sure. - Edited 3 months agoGotta agree with the others on this one, horrible. My records have a shit ton of marks, and light scuffs on them and I bought them new. cleaned it a few times and it sounds a little better, but this is such a shame with how much I love this album.
The mastering is fine, but with the quality of the pressing, ive honestly just been listening to it through Apple Music > DAC > Headphones - After a deep cleaning of the record that took away a bit of the surface noise this sounds pretty good cranked way up. However with headphones on the run ins and run outs it is very noisy and unfortunately not very appealing to the ears. But if you want to have an amazing album on vinyl these are the sacrifices we have to make, when at the mercy seats of the record companies. I recommend it for the music alone.
- Edited 8 months agoIt’s a high quality package overall (sleeves and discs), but the tracks are a bit dense. Bass is nice, highs are a bit light, but the mids struggle the most. The pressing is not silent, but if a scuff sound between tracks.
- Awful pressing quality. Lots of songs ruined by reoccurring pops and surface noise even after professional cleaning. It's a shame as the mastering itself sounds great.
- Overall very good pressing, except for a couple of very loud and jarring pops. What's infuriating, is that these shotgun pops were present IN THE SAME PLACES in three copies I have tried, and a person on a US forum had the SAME pops in the same exact places. Which means it's not a random pressing fault, but that the ass**le who was paid a salary to check the stampers didn't do his job. No excuses for such a sloppy behaviour.
- Sound absolutely magnificent! Don't waste your time with a reissue, save your $$ and get this, a joy to the ears...and the soul.

Great album. The work of a true artist. I bought the original CD in the US & A when it was released. That is the only version I have. At first, it was a little disappointing (definitely a departure from his earlier work, and somewhat even from boatman's call). But it grows on me as I age. The only negative, at this point, is that sometimes I get bummed out thinking about Mick and Blixa sitting around feeling bored and underappreciated.
