Holger Czukay – Rome Remains Rome

Czukay is a world, for in an instance you could give this line to 99% of human beings, but he is special of the sort. A melodic component is dominated,despite of beats, samplers, tape and air-taken parts. From Mozart- as an example of European- bred school of perfect melodists, for its nesessary for a composer,- a gift of God. Czukay used in his rainbow of coloured sounds parts, he took from above. His participation in kraut rock group Can set an overall path for the genre which flourish up to 90s to industrial, though was more vivid and non-rigid, it was him who made so marvel sound of Eurythmics (as a concept for Annie Lennox & Dave Stewart),- or it's only rumours?? A skill to compose melodical side of composition, beats, backround noises, atmospheric sides such as parts of Catholic Church Services ( Blessed Easter) and native folks tunes and songs (Sudetenland) was extraordinary and perfect as a super-gift among the lush time of that electronica-ambient melodies of his contemporaries and co founders of the several collaborations: Eno, Moebius, Plank,Shnitzler etc. Afterwards masterpieces of Czukay would be more free to my taste, but the basis has been put in 80s by him in albums Der Osten ist Rot; Rome remains Rome, On the way to peak of normal, etc...
The most heart taking composition on this album is the Music in the air, the last and special, when the timid non-fused electric guitar solo multiplies its charm when in the background sound noise textures and strange voices created by master Holger.

A notch down from Der Osten Ist Rot perhaps but still a perplexing listen and another genius move from Holger (check out His Holyness The Pope's vocals on Blessed Easter!) Full studio skills to the fore and much to enjoy on this 1987 album which, as always with Holger, mixes the avant garde with humour and genuine unpretentious but always engaging puzzlement.
