Bought this when it first came out and pretty much wore it out. I was 11 years old. About a year ago I managed to find a mint version on discogs and it still sounds as vibrant and exciting as it did in 1970. Sure - it’s a very pop-funky orientated big band sound and definitely of an era but I defy anyone not to be blown away by MacArthur Park or not to be mellowed by his rendering of ‘If I ever thought you’d change your mind’ or ‘Ballad To Max’. There are wonderful attempts at Indian jazz in ‘Chaka Nata’ and ‘L-Dopa’ and unadulterated fun in the Man in a suitcase-esque arrangement of ‘Eli’s Comin’. Get yourself a good vinyl pressing of this album and enjoy.

MF Horns first Funky-Jazz Big Band LP, with Ks Mansfield & Wheeler' arrangements, starting with a great Indian Raga-Jazz classic.
