Show All 83 Reviews- This is a phenomenal sounding version of this album. Bob Ludwig did a fantastic job with all the Dire Straits SBM CD remasters.
- This reissue is perfect. The jacket could be of better quality and the inner sleeve is hard paper (ouch says the vinyl). But the pressing and sound quality is magnificent!

Great production, some excellent songs on album:Once upon a time in the west,Where do you think you're going in top class Dire Straits style.
The quality of album drops a little towards the end of disc, but all in all another Great one for this special band.referencing Communiqué (LP, Album) 6360 170
This is beautiful sounding record and an excelent pressing. The sound is nice, warm, well balanced and crisp.referencing Communiqué (LP, Album, Stereo) 9102 031
Very detailed sound quality on this release. Pressing is lovely too.
I made a needledrop of one of the tracks from this vinyl record - You can find it on the right side in the videos - Under the name: Dire Straits - Where Do You Think You're Going (1979 UK Vinyl)- Edited 25 days agoThis is a solid remaster done right! The extra sence of space and scale the gain 2 ultra DSD process gives, works well for this album. It doesn't quite have the life, colour and shimmer like a UK OG pressing though. Really well done and the vinyl was dead quiet and the Gatefold sleeve was of a very high standard. I was disappointed to learn that it was cut from DSD though, so I sold it and now just enjoy my OG pressings.

I bought this pressing in NM condition and after listening to it, I wondered by I ever bothered buying the MOFI 2x45 rpm in the first place. With the exception of Brothers in arms, I sold all of my Dire Straits MFSL cut from DSD pressings and replaced them with the OG UK pressings.- Does this record sound fantastic? - yes but then again so do all the original UK pressings of DS albums. The question is then is this worth the money? That depends if you want what is probably one of, if not the best sounding vinyl versions and you are happy to pay around 6x the price of a UK original. It is not 6x better but there is more instrument separation as you would expect from a 45rpm cut & there is slightly more clarity.
It is hard to say which version (UK original vs MOFI) I prefer & I will play both.
The 1996 SBM CD remaster by Robert Ludwig is definitely worth seeking out for sound quality & can be bought for a fraction of the cost of decent vinyl copies.
